Astragalus flexuosus (Slender Milk-Vetch) - photos and description
General: Legumes with a prostrate to decumbent growth habit usually with several to many stems. Stems pubescent.
Flowers: Flower stems axillary, inflorescence growing in spikes measured to 11 cm long. Flowers reddish-purple to pink, we measured flowers to 1 cm long.
Leaves: Leaves are alternate, pinnate with up to 20 leaflets. Leaflets linear to oblong, measured to 16 mm long and 4 mm wide. Leaflets pubescent on the bottom and glabrous on top. Stems pubescent.
Height: Budd's Flora gives a stem length up to 50 cm, we measured plants to 28 cm tall.
Habitat: Grassland and bluffs in the prairies and parklands.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: These photos were taken June 13th on prairie on the south slopes of the Moose Mountains 200 km southeast of Regina, SK, and June 16th on prairie in the Buffalo Grass Eco Reserve 200 km southeast of our home in Regina, SK.
