Collomia linearis (Narrow-Leaved Collomia) - photos and description
General: Upright, weedy native annual, usually with simple stems. Stems angular. Top of stems glandular hairy, and sticky to touch.
Flowers: Small pink to mauve flowers grow in a flat-topped, terminal cluster. Flowers are funnelform. We measured a flower at 5 mm diameter. Bracts glandular hairy, inflorescence is sticky to touch.
Leaves: Leaves are alternate, linear-lanceolate, and increase in size up the plant. Leaf top, bottom, and margins have very short hairs.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 40 cm, we measured plants to 37 cm tall.
Habitat: Dry and sandy soil, roadsides and field margins.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: The above photos were taken June 21st, stony prairie, Cypress Hills, about 425 km southwest of Regina, SK and June 27th, disturbed soil in forest meadow, Cypress Hills, about 425 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
