Eriogonum flavum (Yellow Umbrellaplant) - photos and description

General: Low growing plant with a tufted growth habit. Scapes tomentose, greyish in colour.
Flowers: Lemon yellow flowers in compound umbels, an umbel measured to 4 cm across, flowers to 5 mm long.
Leaves: Leaves all basal, elliptical to spatulate, with petiole the leaves measured to 6.5 cm long and 1 cm wide. Leaves are tomentose and greyish-green on top, white woolly on the undersides.
Height: Height listed in Flora of Alberta to 30 cm, I measured scapes to 18 cm tall.
Habitat: Dry hills, valleys, and badlands in southern Saskatchewan.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: Took the above photos June 19th, Buffalo Grass Eco Reserve, 200 km southeast of Regina, and stony hillside in the Cypress Hills, 450 km south west of our home in Regina, SK.
