Lathyrus venosus (Wild Peavine) - photos and description

 

 

 

 

General: A climbing plant with square, pubescent stems.

Flowers: Flowers are purple-blue, in dense racemes. Racemes to 5 cm long, flowers to 1.5 cm long.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, pinnate to 11 leaflets, leaflets oblong-ovate, we measured a leaflet to 5 cm long and 2 cm wide.

Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 100 cm long, we measured plants to a height of 93 cm.

Habitat: Woodlands, open areas among woods, and ditches in the parklands and boreal forest.

Abundance: Common.

Origin: Native.

When and where photographed: Photos taken July 1st, among bushes on forest's edge, boreal forest, 400 km north east of our home in Regina, SK.
