Lysimachia maritima (Sea Milkwort) - photos and description
General: Low growing perennials with leafy stems, rhizomatous, often found in large colonies. Plant glabrous, lower stems are red.
Flowers: Flowers are small, axillary and sessile, pinkish in colour, bell-shaped with 5 lobes, we measured a flower at 6 mm in diameter.
Leaves: Leaves are opposite, oblanceolate, 9 mm long, 2 mm wide, somewhat rubbery / succulent.
Height: Height listed in Flora of Alberta to 10 cm, I measured plants to 7 cm tall.
Habitat: Saline soil in meadows and slough margins on the prairies, parklands, and boreal forest.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
Synonym: Listed in some of the field guides we use as Glaux maritima.
When and where photographed: Photographed these plants June 23rd and 25th in a saline wet spot about 25 km southeast of our home in Regina, Saskatchewan.
