Mimulus glabratus (Smooth Monkeyflower) - photos and description
15 cm ruler for scale.
Plant minutely pubescent.
General: Weak stemmed plant, decumbent or creeping growth habit, with its creeping stems rooting at the leaf nodes. Stems and leaves minutely pubescent.
Flowers: Flowers are small, bright yellow, solitary in leaf axils, two-lipped, the upper lip with 2 lobes. I measured flowers to 13 mm in length, 7 mm diameter.
Leaves: Leaves are opposite, more or less round with irregular teeth, we measured leaves to 28 mm long and wide.
Height: Stem length listed in Budd's Flora to 40 cm, we measured stems to 49 cm tall, although most were far shorter - 20 cm tall or less.
Habitat: Springs and fens.
Abundance: This plant is extremely rare in Saskatchewan, ranked as an S2 (as of 2021) by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: Above photos taken July 31st and August 9th, in a fen in the eastern Qu'Appelle Valley.
