Looking straight down on plants, petals have wavy margins.

General: Small woodland perennial plants with a solitary stem. Plants glabrous.

Flowers:  Flowers solitary and nodding. The flowers are star-shaped with 5 petals, the petals with wavy margins, we measured flowers to 20 mm  diameter.

Leaves: Leaves grow in a basal rosette, round to ovate, finely toothed, waxy to touch. We measured a leaf at 15 mm wide and across (not including the petiole).

Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 15 cm, I measured plants to 8 cm tall.

Habitat: Cool, moist wooded areas.

Abundance: Common.

Origin: Native.

When and where photographed: Took the above photos July 1st, mossy black spruce woods, Nisbet provincial forest, about 350 km north of Regina, SK, July 24th, on moist, grassy ground, edge of a beaver swamp, heavy forest, Cypress Hills, about 425 km southwest of Regina, SK, and July 4th in mossy black spruce woods on the edge of a fen, Duck Mountain Provincial Park, 300 km northeast of our home in Regina, SK.
