Nuphar lutea

General: Stout-stemmed aquatic plant with floating leaves.

Flowers: Golden yellow flowers solitary on long stalks, flowers measured at 4 cm diameter.

Leaves: Leaves cordate with a narrow sinus. The leaf highlighted in photo above was 16.5 cm long and 13 cm wide.

Height: Height of flowering stem was measured to 14.5 cm out of the water.

Habitat: Small lakes, sluggish backwaters and streams in the boreal forest.

Abundance: Fairly common.

Origin: Native.

When and where photographed: Photos taken on July 3rd, boreal forest, 450 km north east of our home in Regina, Saskatchewan.
