Potentilla anserina (Silverweed) - photos and description

General: Plants have a tufted growth habit, and red-coloured runners above ground form large colonies.
Flowers: Flowers solitary on leafless peduncles, yellow with 5 or 6 petals, we measured a flower at 2 cm diameter.
Leaves: Leaves are basal, green or silver on top and silver below, with leaflets silky hairy to woolly on top and densely woolly below. Leaves oblong, pinnate to 23 leaflets, we measured a leaf to 18 cm long.
Height: Stem length listed in Budd's Flora to 45 cm long.
Habitat: Wet ditches, meadows, lake shores.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: Took the above photos June 13th, prairie roadside, about 70 km east of Regina, SK, and June 25th in moist grassland, about 30 km southeast of our home in Regina, SK.
