Prunus pumila (Sand Cherry) - photos and description

General: Shrubs with a low, spreading growth habit, and showy flowers.
Flowers: Flowers are white, fragrant, grow in umbels of 2-4, flower measured at 18 mm diameter.
Leaves: Leaves alternate, are oblong to oblanceolate, with short petioles. Leaf highlighted in photo above was 28 mm long and 9 mm wide.
Height: Height not given in Budd's Flora, we measured plants to 78 cm tall.
Habitat: Sand hills and dry prairie.
Abundance: This plant is very rare, ranked as an S2 (as of 2021) by the Saskatchewan Conservation Data Centre.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: Photos taken June 15th, sandy jack pine woods, boreal forest, about 400 km northeast of our home in Regina, SK.
