General: Low perennial, stems erect, solitary or tufted. Plants pilose.
Flowers: Flowers solitary on pilose stalks, bright yellow, we measured a flower to 2 cm diameter, the petals widely spaced.
Leaves: Basal leaves oval to round, crenate, measured to 25 mm long with petiole, and 15 mm wide. Stem leaves alternate, deeply cleft, sessile, upper stem leaves in whorls, linear in profile.
Height: Budd's Flora lists height to 45 (!) cm, we measured plants from 4.5 to 11 cm tall.
Habitat: Open woods and grassland.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: We took the above photos April 28th, grassy hiking paths amid aspen woods, White Butte, 20 km east of Regina, SK.
