Viburnum edule (Low Bush-Cranberry) - photos and description
General: Shrubs decumbent to erect with a branching growth habit. Stems greyish in colour.
Flowers: In round clusters on short stems, white with five petals. We measured a flower at 7 mm diameter, and a flower cluster at 2 cm diameter.
Leaves: Leaves opposite, dentate, shallowly 3-lobed, and having flat bases. Leaves cliliate, otherwise plants glabrous. Leaf blade measured at 5.5 cm long and 5.5 cm wide.
Height: Height listed in Budd's Flora to 200 cm, we measured plants to 40 cm tall.
Habitat: Rich woodlands.
Abundance: Common.
Origin: Native.
When and where photographed: The above photos were taken June 27th, forest slope, centre block of the Cypress Hills, about 425 km southwest of our home in Regina, SK.
